ANGLE – Roma children’s education in Dolj
ANGLE works against school dropout in Roma communities in Dolj County on three levels simultaneously: the pupil, the family and the school. Separately they do not work — a child who receives school supplies but whose parent sees no point in school drops out anyway. The project supports 200 pupils, 200 parents, 60 teachers and 10 community mentors, in Craiova and in the village of Rast.

Who benefits
470 people: 200 Roma pupils, 60 school staff including school mediators and management, 200 parents or legal guardians, and 10 mentors from the community. Associated schools are in Rast, plus „Lascăr Catargiu” and „Ion Creangă” schools in Craiova.
What we do
An individual educational services plan and a personalised support package for each of the 200 pupils, with school and vocational counselling. A parental education programme in every associated school. Two thematic camps in cultural and artistic education for 50 children from rural areas and small towns. Mentoring by 10 trained community mentors for at least 100 pupils, four months minimum each, producing a mentoring guide printed in 200 copies. A six-month mentoring programme for 60 teachers. Dedicated support for Roma girls: monthly health education workshops, 200 hygiene packages, at least two summer schools. And recognition for teachers: two competition rounds, 20 monthly grants of RON 500, two award events.
Committed results
Output indicator 5SO05 requires 200 Roma children and young people in the target group, with milestones of 60 and 130. Result indicator 5SR09.01 requires 120 of them — 60% — to remain in education or improve their level of education.
What we do not publish
The project works with minors from vulnerable communities. We do not publish photographs in which pupils are identifiable, and we never associate a person’s name or image with ethnic origin — not even with written parental consent. Partners who work with us on this project are asked to apply the same rule.
