ROCCAS 4 SVO – colorectal cancer screening
ROCCAS 4 SVO takes colorectal cancer screening to people who would never ask for it. The programme informs 31,575 people aged 50–74 in the South-West Oltenia region, screens at least 25,260 of them and provides approximately 1,388 colonoscopies for those at higher risk. We are a partner in this project; the lead partner is the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova.

Who benefits
31,575 people meeting three conditions at once: belonging to a vulnerable or socio-economically disadvantaged group, or living in a community with heightened vulnerability; aged 50 to 74; resident in one of the localities covered.
The participant pathway
Information and counselling → faecal immunochemical test (FIT) → colonoscopy at the regional centre if the result is positive. Of 31,575 people informed, at least 25,260 are tested and approximately 1,388 reach colonoscopy.
What we do in this consortium
The fieldwork. Identifying, informing and mobilising the target group — the activity mobilises 150 field expert positions for identification and enrolment, five officers for validation and monitoring, accompaniment experts and information coordinators. We cover participants’ travel costs and organise 15 events with family doctors, three per county. We also contribute to equipping the prevention centres and to project management. Screening itself, the colonoscopies, the prevention centre and public communication are the university’s responsibility.
Committed results
EECO01 requires 31,575 participants. Indicator 02PSO3 requires 25,260 people tested, with milestones of 3,201 by September 2026, 8,500 by 2027, 12,500 by March 2028 and 18,500 by September 2028. Indicator 02PSO1 requires one regional information campaign. Result indicator 02PSR6 requires 80% of the people informed to actually reach testing.
Confidentiality
The project processes health data, a special category under Article 9 of the General Data Protection Regulation. We publish no images in which participants are identifiable and never associate a person with a medical result. Information notices are given individually at enrolment.
